How to stay Motivated as an Overwhelmed Mom

Let's just face it, life as a mom is downright overwhelming.

The kids wake up early so you try to drink some coffee to shake off the "sleepies" but the moment you sit down to drink it, they want breakfast.

Then you realize the kitchen is still a mess from last night's dinner rush.

Then big brother is wrestling with baby sister and she's crying. All of this and it's only 7 AM and your coffee is now cold.

That's the situation for us moms who are blessed to be a stay-at-home mom. The working mom is, undeniably, a SUPERHERO.

Here's some tips I have found that have changed my overwhelm to excited motivation.

Find something to stimulate your mind

Find a good motivational audio book or podcast, listen to it while doing dishes and laundry, while driving, or during nap time while you catch up on housework. Here are a few good book recommendations.

Rich Dad Poor Dad  By Robert Kiyosaki

Girl, Wash Your Face By Rachel Hollis

The Start Up of You By Reid Hoffman, Ben Casnocha

Atomic Habits By James Clear

Make your bed every morning

There is a whole book written about the power of starting your day off with a completed task (Make Your Bed By Admiral William H. McRaven). It sets you up for a day full of accomplishments.

Make a prioritized To Do List

Before you go to bed at night, create a to do list for the next day that has your most important tasks listed in order of importance. You will wake up the next day with a plan of action. There's no greater since of accomplishment as there is when you can check something off your to do list!

Writing down your to do list in a physical planner is a way to make sure the scratch paper you jotted your list on doesn't get ignored or thrown away. Listing each task on the specific day it needs to be completed in will motivate you to get it checked off before the day is over instead of letting it sit on your undated to do list until the next day or week. Check out this planner that is perfect for the Motivated Mom!

Add a few things for yourself to your to do list

Go to an exercise class, drink 8 cups of water, cuddle your baby for 30 minutes, go to bed before 10, take vitamins, do your skin care routine, call a friend or schedule a biweekly lunch date with a friend.... The possibilities here are endless. It's important to make sure you are taking care of yourself and your mental health too. You will not be able to adequately fill your family's metaphorical cup if your cup is empty.

Your family depends on you Mama. Don't forget to take care of yourself so that you can be all your family deserves and MORE!
